Phantom raspberry blower | Dementia Support Forum

I find myself living with a phantom raspberry blower. Mum went into hospital recently for a broken hip. Finally got her back (that's another story) but now she blows raspberry's (almost spitting because there is a fine spray). Sometimes it is almost continuous, it can be very loud and very annoying. Has anyone found a way to stop or reduce such behaviour. I toyed with the idea of spraying water in her face but that would be cruel. I know she cannot help it & possibly doesn't even realise she is doing it. But it does impact on what I can do with her. I'm reluctant to take her out for a coffee or a meal, I'm worried that other people may be annoyed.
I don't think she is in pain (I give her paracetamol & the noise continues). It's a habit she has got into. If only there is a way to break the habit.
I think I'm stuck with her new habit. But if anyone knows a trick then I would be glad to know.
PS She also continuously paces. Almost like one of those caged animals in the zoo. Triggered by the stress of hospital I think....or possibly a natural progression of ALzheimers accelerated by the fall.
